If every colour change means “click,” the task is basically a simple reaction. If green means click, red means wait and blue means choose another action, the participant must identify and classify the stimulus before responding.
That additional rule changes what the score represents.
A mapping is the rule connecting a stimulus to an action. Well-learned, intuitive mappings can become quick; unfamiliar or frequently changing mappings demand more conscious selection.

A player can force a lower reaction time by guessing before the colour has been fully processed. This increases the chance of an incorrect response.
A better goal is to find the fastest pace at which accuracy remains high. That is closer to the real demand of games and other decision tasks.
Not everyone distinguishes colours in the same way. A good interface should avoid relying only on subtle colour differences and can add labels, shapes or contrast cues where possible.

Keep the response rule stable for a block of trials, but allow the order and timing of colours to remain unpredictable. That way you can learn the mapping without simply learning a repeated sequence. Once the mapping feels automatic, increase difficulty by adding another valid response, shortening the decision window or introducing a distractor that must be ignored.
When comparing sessions, record both correct-response time and error rate. A useful improvement is being able to preserve the same accuracy at a faster pace, or improve accuracy without becoming substantially slower. This is more informative than treating the single quickest correct response as the entire result.
