An overshoot means the cursor travels past the target. An undershoot means it stops short. A premature click happens before the pointer is settled inside the target.
These errors can feel identical—“I missed”—but they suggest different movement-control problems.
Efficient pointing often has a rapid initial movement followed by controlled deceleration near the target. If you repeatedly zig-zag around the endpoint, you are spending time correcting a movement that was not well calibrated.
Slow down just enough to make the primary movement cleaner, then rebuild speed.
Instead of asking “How fast can I go?”, ask “How fast can I go while staying above my chosen accuracy?” For example, you might refuse to increase pace until you can reproduce a high hit rate across several runs.
This prevents the timer from rewarding reckless movement.
Smaller targets expose endpoint error because they reduce the stopping area. Use them deliberately, but return to medium targets to practise transferring that control back into faster movements.
Mixing sizes helps prevent overfitting to one exact target scale.
If accuracy rises while time stays stable, that is improvement. If time falls while accuracy stays stable, that is also improvement. The best progress eventually improves both.
The movement may be too aggressive for the required precision, or your sensitivity/control mapping may not yet be stable.
Use a pace that allows clean repetitions, then gradually increase speed. Permanently moving extremely slowly does not train the full speed–accuracy challenge.
Check whether accuracy stayed similar or improved. A faster run with many more misses is not equivalent performance.
